New Charter Community School
Location Cincinnati, Ohio
Client: Greater Cincinnati Community Academy
Project:
This project consisted of converting 20,500 sq. ft. of a former technical school then later a church's vacant
storage into a State of Ohio approvable K-8 charter "community" school plan.
Details:
Existing areas had to be documented and
measured in order to produce a set of existing floor plans as a basis. Once documentation was completed contractors
began a nearly total (except for roof, exterior walls and slab on grade) demolition while the team designed and
obtained approval for the new school plans; a school, which was designed to accommodate up to 700 children. New
electrical and plumbing systems were designed, while substantially modifying the existing HVAC systems to
accommodate the new school plan. Spaces designed included: 26 classrooms, science and computer labs, teachers'
lounges, offices, restrooms, janitor closet, storage areas, circulation paths and an open and airy main Entrance
lobby.
