New Recreation Area/Mechanical Renovations

Location:Lincoln Heights, Ohio
Client:Lincoln Heights Senior Citizen Center

Project:
Our firm needed to creatively solve the lack of sun shading and increasingly significant mechanical operational costs. In addition, we needed to modify the restrooms to properly address ADA regulations.

Details:
In order to resolve the lack of sun shading issue we redesigned the complete South facing façade with more residential type windows and incorporated sun shading over the windows, as well as placed a door unit in this wall for egress to the new exterior passive interactive space.

This space was designed to provide the Seniors with an exterior respite where shading, cooling and fresh air would be provided during the necessary times of year. A retaining wall was designed in order to remold the landscape to re-direct site drainage and to provide more cooling effects. The tree canopy of branches and leaves overhead, casting their shadows for shading toward the front of the building.

In addition, we had the task of redesigning the complete HVAC system so that the Center would be independent of the overall building's system. Again, the focus was on efficiency of operations, as well as dollars to be spent. The mechanical engineering was done by HAL-PE Engineering Services.
