Scattered Sites New Single Family Houses

Location: Lincoln Heights, Ohio
Woodlawn, Ohio
Lockland, Ohio
Hollydale & Blue Ash, Ohio
Client: Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA)

Project:
With a need to test the market for detached single-family housing. CMHA contracted with Wilson & Associates, which contracted with our firm to lead the design and development of this special initiative. This was the first time CMHA would be building single-family houses as well as outside the city into the county.

Details:
As project Architect we directed the combined design team from two architectural firms (ACA and Wilson & Associates) to create the first single-family housing prototypes for CMHA. Units contained: three bedrooms, living, dining and kitchen with two baths, storage, mechanical room, laundry area, and a one car attached garage. Two prototypes were developed: 1) one story; and 2) a two-story model.

First public housing units to incorporate energy conservation, and materials set to last 20 years as a directive to reduce long term operating costs. The solutions produced and established new design and energy standards for future CMHA projects.

Given the priority need for prior zoning reviews, change(s), and approvals Project Architect assessed all sites, requirements, prepared hearing cases, and presented cases to various zoning commissions.
