New Maintenance Garage Building

(Design/Build Project)

Location: Elmwood, Ohio
Client: Cincinnati Boss Company, Inc.

Project:
Cincinnati Boss had a dire need for a new garage building which would provide: storage for maintenance type materials; ability to park its delivery trucks, and provide routine non-critical maintenance on their vehicles. Challenge was to construct a new building taking into account an existing slab and partial foundation curb - left from former building.

Details:
The design solution produced a 2,904 SF. plan with a 16' high exterior metal wall system with two very large (14' x 12') overhead steel doors; are at either end of the building. The doors required their own independent steel framing in order to have them operate independent of the buildings skeleton framework. The slab and foundation were subsequently restructured to be sufficient for new intended use. New steel frame base legs had to be custom designed in order to fit onto a modified concrete foundation.

Further design incorporated basic: new man door; metal siding, wall structure, and roofing systems; panel insulation at walls and roof; new complete electrical power, lighting - interior and exterior with appropriate outlets; installation of four industrial velocity infrared heaters with thermostatic controls; truck repair stalls (lift and pit); public restroom; and secured storage areas.

Unique aspects: rain water disposal system reworked due to increase capacity expected. Existing utilities extended and modified as more were in operation for over fifteen years.

New Paper Storage Building

Location: Ludlow, Kentucky
Client: Duro Bag Company, Inc.

Project:
Design/build project with Radius construction to develop a new storage building to replace an existing wood pole building which could not meet code and fire compliance. New structure was a steel structure framed and built over the framework and existing foundation and slab.

Details:
The project demanded that the building be completed in four weeks from start to finish. Building was: divided into four bays of 23' or 22' widths; sprinklered throughout new sections added to modified existing; interior accessed by huge 14' x 12' overhead steel sliding door; and small moving crane was incorporated for transferring large loads.

Design involved wrapping one corner around an existing pump house - which supplied the loop sprinkler system. All existing public utilities had to be modified and relocated with skillful precision - as the plant had to be operated continuously throughout the construction of new building.

Building dimensions were 4,950 SF. with 18' wall heights, all steel wall panels, roof, and structural framework.
