Zion Nursing Home

Location:Cincinnati, Ohio
Client:Zion Nursing Care Center

Project:
The firm was commissioned to provide architectural/engineering services for three major additions totaling 11,00 sq. ft. to this existing nursing home a one story structure with a partial basement. In addition, there was extensive renovation work required where the new additions connected to the existing building. The functional program for these additions directed the design of: activity rooms - for meetings and counseling; new administrative offices; dining and lounge areas; joint dentist and doctor examination area; physical therapy and active recreation; chapel and large meeting room; renovations to all bath and toilet rooms not in compliance with ADA and code; and renovations to put kitchen operations into compliance with the State Licensing Board.

Details:
Considerable civil and structural design was provided for the building's additions and the sensitive placement on site dictated by the very tight and limited space parameters.

This work also included developing the design program based on client's basic outline of priorities and needs; program was revised upon review by State officials. A survey of existing operations had to be conducted to provide all design team members a current state of conditions prior to beginning schematic design. The most challenging task was the planning necessary from design throughout construction that had to be developed and implemented, as all construction work had to be completed while keeping the entire 68-bed nursing home in full operation. Work. That took nearly seven months to complete.
