Geier House MR/DD Adult Home - Sun Room Addition with Minor ADA and Fire Code Renovations

Renovations & System Upgrades
Client: Hamilton County Department of Mental Retardation/Development Disabilities
Location: Blue Ash, Ohio

Project:
Adult home for MR/DD residents had become undersized and needed additional interior space for effective recreation activities. The room provided has direct access to external passive recreation area.

Details:
The solution produced an expansive sunlight space enclosed with a barrel shape glass wall with eastern/partial southern exposure. Passive exterior area design provided hard and soft surfaces, a new tree was strategically planted to provide, natural shading to these new spaces.

Minor Renovations included: new flooring, ceiling, wall treatments, and ADA handrails to corridor and adjacent spaces to new Sun Room. New fire alarm system installed with limited area sprinklers; plus lighting fixtures to soften the atmosphere to “feel like home”.

Geier House is a home to 16 MR/DD adults with a 24 hour on site house manager and support staff.
